Sequined Socks

This project was super easy you guys. To make your own, you’ll need socks, sequins, thread, a bead needle, an hour of your time and a bit of patience.

I used dress socks from Target, which are about the same thickness as tights. Because of this, the knotted thread pulled right through the material! To prevent this, I tied the thread around a bead at the start. This securely held the knot in place. Because of this same reason, I found it best to use one long strand of thread (as long as you can tolerate) so you don’t have to use as many beaded “starters.”

Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere had a great tip for sewing onto tights on her blog. Because the material is so flexible, it’s easier to stitch if you are wearing them.

Once I got towards the end, the thread on the inside of the sock was looking like that laser beam security system that Catherine Zeta Jones had to navigate in Entrapment. Luckily I had bought a 3-pack of socks, so I quickly doubled them up, adding a second sock as a liner on the inside, and sewing the two together. This way, I’ll be able to easily slip them on and off without fear of disrupting the intricate threadwork.

This project didn’t take long at all. Even a novice sewer should be able to put these together in just one night. And then, you’ll be bedazzled and ready to go!
