Sunday Breakfast
I had a horrible first draft for breakfast Sunday morning, at a Beverly Hill cafe with some friends. If you’re terribly interested in the story, you can read my review on Yelp. Needless to say, on the drive home, I stopped for groceries so I could cook myself a proper breakfast.

It ended up being great, and exactly what I wanted, except that I poached the eggs a bit too long, so the yolks hardened. My favorite moment of eating an egg is when the yolk pops and dribbles all over the rest of the food, a natural thick, rich sauce. My problem was I was poaching the eggs on a VERY low heat setting, so I thought I could get away with leaving them in there while I put together the rest of the meal. Not so much. But I’ll know for next time.

I threw one clove of garlic and 1/8 of a red pepper (both finely chopped) in the frying pan w/some EVOO. Let them cook for a few minutes, then tossed the spinach on top, and let it cook until it shriveled. Pulled that out and put in a separate bowl while I finished up: I let the bread cook right in the frying pan…it crisped up really nicely. At the end I added some butter. Also cooked the tomato in the frying pan until it softened. Built the sandwich on San Franciscan Sourdough and enjoyed…it was lovely!

Obviously there’s also some salt and pepper on top of those eggs. This late breakfast totally made up for the earlier mishap at Urth Caffe, where I sat amongst trendsters and forked over too much money for food I didn’t want.

Happy Monday (delicious-day) Everybody!
